PK & PKM

PK 6P6 machine gun with 100-round drum - 7.62x54mm R. Note the larger curved gas block and the thicker fluted barrel.

PKM 6P6M machine gun - 7.62x54mm R. This has the classic (most commonly seen) version of the flash hider.

PKMN 6P6MN - 7.62x54mmR. Note in order to open the top cover with optics equipped, the dovetail has to be unlocked by pulling a spring loaded pin (seen sticking out near the back of the tray cover), which is held captive. This function was also used for the PKP Pecheneg-N's dovetail mount.

PKS & PKMS

PKS 6P3 machine gun on a 6T2 Samojenkov tripod with 250-round ammo drum - 7.62x54mm R. Note the lack of a hinged shoulder strap on the stock and the fluted barrel; these differentiate the PK from the later PKM. This example is also seen with an earlier tripod without the modern tripod's belt box mount.

PKB & PKMB

PKB 6P10 - 7.62x54mm R. This is pretty much the same as the standard PK. The main defining factor of whether or not it is a PK or PKB is the mount.

PKT & PKMT

PKT machine gun with solenoid trigger wire and 250-round ammo drum - 7.62x54mm R. This is the vehicle mounted version of the PK and is commonly seen in coaxial configuration. Note it lacks a conventional trigger and instead is either fired via the solenoid remote trigger or with the backup thumb trigger on top. Spade grips exist as well but were rarely fielded. Also note all PKT models lack the ammunition box mounting bracket which the standard PK series has.

PKT with spade grips - 7.62x54mmR. These are usually seen on the BMD airborne tank and helicopter side guns. Foreign PK variants are sometimes modified to use these grips as well.

PKMT 6P7K with solenoid trigger wire - 7.62x54mm R. This is an updated version of PKT put into service in 1998 and more commonly seen. Note the conical flash hider.
