Civil War is a 2024 American action war film directed by Alex Garland (28 Days Later). Set in the near future, the film takes place during a rapidly escalating Second American Civil War, where the tyrannical President of the United States (Nick Offerman) fortifies himself and his loyalists in Washington, D.C. as the secessionist Western Forces close in. Seasoned photojournalist Lee Smith (Kirsten Dunst) joins the Western Forces army to document the war, followed by fellow journalists Joel (Wagner Moura) and Jessie (Cailee Spaeny). The group is determined to interview the President before the conflict concludes. Along the way, the trio witnesses the devastation of the Second Civil War firsthand, and become ever more active participants in the conflict.
The following weapons were used in the film Civil War:

Rifles
Colt AR-15A3 Tactical Carbine
An unnamed Nationalist militiaman (Jesse Plemons) is armed with a Colt AR-15A3 Tactical Carbine with a EOTech EXPS2 holographic sight, 30-round STANAG magazine, and KAC quad picatinny rail handguard. Another Nationalist is also armed with an identically set up rifle.

"What kind of American are you?" The Nationalist militiaman (
Jesse Plemons) holds up his Colt AR-15A3 carbine. Note the 16 inch heavy non-stepped barrel. The EOTech also features the older logo as opposed to the XPS3, confirming to be an XPS2.
Another shot provides a clearer profile of the carbine. This image reveals that the weapon is actually a Colt 6721 upper (or an equivalent from another manufacturer) on an older DPMS lower - note the distinctive shape of the magazine release button fencing, which is found only on older DPMS rifles.
Colt Law Enforcement Carbine
An armed militiaman at a gas station holds a Colt Law Enforcement Carbine with a tan EOTech XPS holographic sight, tan LMT rear sight, tan STANAG magazine, tan camouflage painted KAC quad rail handguard, tan flashlight and tan camouflage painted LE stock on a black receiver (pistol grip, front sight and stepped barrel) when Lee's group stop by for fuel. The same rifle with all the exact attachments with the exception of parkarized STANAG magazines later turns up in the hands of a character named "WF White House Assaulter #1" (Jared Shaw), the leader of a Western Forces commando squad which assaults the White House during the battle of Washington, D.C. The WF White House Sergeant's (Jojo T. Gibbs) rifle also changes from a M4A1 Carbine into a Colt LE Carbine when she enters the White House.

The leader of a Western Forces commando squad, identified as "WF White House Assaulter #1" (Jared Shaw), wearing a black FAST helmet, fires his Colt Law Enforcement Carbine as he leads his squad to assault the White House.
A full profile of the leader's carbine is seen as he and his are inside the White House. The identical modifications to the carbine (tan EOTech sight, tan LMT rear sight, tan camouflage painted quad rail and tan camouflage painted LE stock) indicate it is the same Colt Law Enforcement Carbine that was seen earlier at the gas station.

Joel (
Wagner Moura) and the WF White House Sergeant taking cover against a wall before entering the other hallway of the White House to continue battling the Secret Service agents. The Sergeant's LE Carbine's 16 inch barrel is clearly seen here along with a EOTech XPS2 Holographic sight, flashlight, Tango Down foregrip and laser designator. Note the SP1 lower receiver's lack of fencing.
The Sergeant with her LE Carbine raised up as she and Joel prepare to enter the White House hallway.
M4A1 Carbine
Soldiers of the United States and the Western Forces both commonly carry M4A1 carbines throughout the film, mostly fitted with a variety of EOTech XPS2 holographic sights and/or Trijicon TA31 ACOG scopes, KAC quad rail handguards, some with AN/PEQ-15 laser designators, RIS foregrips, and flashlights, most notably during the battle of Washington, D.C. and the storming of the White House. U.S. Marines are also seen with M4A1s in a flashback scene of Lee's time covering a conflict in the Middle East.

A Western Forces soldier fires his M4A1 Carbine as he ducks straight for cover while while assaulting the Federal positions outside the White House.
On the far left, the WF White House Sergeant (Jojo T. Gibbs) holds up her M4A1 carbine while pushing forward with the attacking forces. This soldier's M4A1 changes into a Colt Law Enforcement Carbine inside the White House CQB scene.
Colt Mk 18 Mod 0
Several militia fighters carry Mk 18 Mod 0 carbines during an assault on a Federal position in the university shootout, notably by one of them who is pinned down and subsequently shot; this militiaman's carbine has a EOTech 551 holographic sight, UTG quad rail handguard, and LE stock. Western Forces soldiers also carry Mk 18 Mod 0 carbines during the battle in Washington, D.C., mostly fitted with EOTech 551 holographic sights and KAC quad rail handguards.

The militiamen in the middle armed with a Colt Model 933 while on the move to outflank the Federal position. The 11.5 inch barrel is briefly visible here but the carbine changes to a Mk 18 once the militiamen are inside the building.
Noveske N4 Diplomat
What appears to be a Noveske N4 Diplomat with an EOTech 551 holographic sight, flashlight, camouflage tape wrapped around the handguard (for a smooth griping point), and Vltor EMOD buttstock is carried and fired by a red Hawaiian shirt-wearing militiaman during the shootout at the university. This AR features a different 'flat' profile forward assist differing from standard AR forward assists.
Noveske N4 Diplomat - 5.56x45mm NATO
The militiaman fires the Noveske-style rifle from behind a column. Trivia note: the scene was filmed at the Emory Clinic building at the Briarcliff campus of Emory University in Atlanta, which also provided the exterior visuals for Hawkins Lab during Season 1 of
Stranger Things.

Sniper Rifles
Aero Precision M5
Custom sniper rifles based on an Aero Precision M5E1 Gen 1 upper receiver and a MAS Defense AR-10 lower receiver are used by various snipers during the film.
The upper receiver can be recognized by the Aero Precision logo on the bolt carrier group and the M5E1 Enhanced gen 1 handguard.
Director Alex Garland instructs the Spotter (Karl Glusman) and the Sniper (Jin Ha) in a behind the scenes photo. The Sniper holds an AR sniper rifle which is mostly obscured by ghillie material.

A U.S. Army soldier fires a Carl Gustav M2 at a Western Forces HMMWV. The entire shot is mirrored as the Carl Gustav's front sight is on the left than on the right along with the older back blast loading gate levers also on the the opposite side. Also definitive features of the M2 are the barrel band next to the front grip and lack of carrying handle next to the levers.

The AS350 flies alongside a Western Forces convoy.
M230 Chain Gun
An AH-64 Apache with its M230 Chain Gun is seen fired during the film's climatic battle of Washington, D.C., however, when fired, its sound profile is closer to a minigun rather than the slowed 625rpm of the real M230. At one point, an Apache descends to street level between two buildings and fires an AGM-114 Hellfire missile at a Federal position at very close range, when in reality, Apaches will typically hover and fire their weapons at long-range rather than needlessly expose themselves to enemy fire. Or in this case, collision with the surrounding terrain.
M230 Chain Gun - 30x113mm
A Western Forces AH-64 Apache opens fire with its M320 Chain Gun. The street depicted is supposed to be Pennsylvania Avenue approaching 17th Street near the White House, although the real life avenue is wider and different in appearance. The street in the film was a set built on a parking lot in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
Joel and Jessie take cover as the AH-64 Apache fires on nearby buildings.
Fake M1A1 Abrams
Two M1A1 Abrams tanks are used by Western Forces troops to attack White House gates during the Battle of Washington D.C. The tanks are both British made Chieftain tanks that have been visually modified to resemble the M1A1 Abrams.
A WF M1A1 Abrams advances towards the White House gates. The crew can be seen using a
