Beretta 80 Series Pistols - "Cheetah"
The Beretta 80 series of pistols is commonly referred to as the "Cheetah" however, this term describes all of the 80 series of pistols - Model 81-89. All 80 series pistols are available in standard or FS versions (FS includes a Finger Step in the trigger guard like the Beretta 92FS, the early models had a smooth rounded trigger guard) however the Cheetah series of pistols eventually took on the internal changes of the 92F/92FS. Initially, the line was known as the "Series 81". However, after the release of the 80X, it has come to be known as the "Series 80".
Beretta 81
The original model. The 81s feature a 12-round double-stack magazine with a .32 ACP chambering. The 81 is something of an improved Model 70 with features taken from the Model 92, such as a double-action trigger, an ambidextrous thumb safety and a double-stack magazine. The 81 was popular in Europe, as well as other countries like Israel and Australia. As a result, this model exists in 81, 81B, 81BB, 81F and 81FS configurations. Production of the Model 81 ceased by 2017 at the latest. The Model 82 is the same, but it has an 8-round, single-stack magazine. However, the 82 was not as successful as the 81 and it is somewhat of a rare variant.

Beretta 84
The Beretta 84 is an 81 chambered in .380 ACP. It also comes with a 13-round magazine. The 84 is the most popular Cheetah model in the United States, and, like the 81, exists in 84, 84B, 84BB, 84F and 84FS configurations. Production ceased in 2017, however the series was resurrected in 2023 with the 80X, which is effectively an 84FS with improvements from the X line. The 80X will accept older Beretta 84 magazines and the 80X magazines can be used in most older models, however 80X magazines will not disengage the magazine disconnect safety on some 84 models. If the magazine disconnect safety is removed, the newer magazines will work perfectly.

Beretta 86
The Beretta 86 is distinguished from the rest of the 80 Series pistols in having a tip-up barrel, allowing a single round to be loaded into the chamber without needing to rack the slide. The Model 86 is effectively a Beretta 85BB with a tip-up barrel and wood grips. The Beretta 86 is the most powerful tip-up pistol in history, because of the inherent weakness of a tip-up design not allowing for more powerful calibers than .380 ACP. In 2023, EAA released a clone of the 86 called the Girsan MC-14T. The MC-14T is very similar to the 86, except it has an accessory rail and uses a standard 84 double stack magazine instead of the 86's single stack.

Beretta 87
The 87 is effectively a .22 LR rimfire version of the Beretta 85BB. They were discontinued in 1994, then reintroduced 2000, discontinued again in 2013, and produced once again breifly in 2017.
