Discussion
Should the FG42's users be listed as Luftwaffe, as it is now, or Fallschirmjäger, since I'm fairly sure they were the only people to use it. Also, would it be a good idea to ad a section explaining what the branches are? Not everyone knows what Fallschirmjäger, or Feldgendarmerie, or Volkssturm are and explaining might be nice. --Mandolin 18:19, 9 August 2012 (CDT)
The explaining on the branches sounds like a good idea as some might not know what they do such as myself for example. Im willing to write a little but I don't have much time at the moment.Mr.Ice 22:07, 9 August 2012 (CDT)
I agree, a key stating what the branches are would be a good idea. I know the more well-known ones, such as the Bundeswehr, Luftwaffe, and Waffen-SS (everybody knows who the Waffen-SS is...), but the others might as well be Greek to me. Spartan198 (talk) 04:14, 27 May 2014 (EDT)
G28 is NOT just a regular HK417 put in a DMR role
It is actually a (most likely accurized) semi-auto only version of the HK417. I think we should change the name of it in the Marksman, AMR, and Sniper Rifles section from HK417 to G28. Jeddostotle7 18:54, 9 August 2012 (CDT)
- Done. --SmithandWesson36 00:49, 10 August 2012 (CDT)
The actual weapon that the G28 is based on is the DMR762, which is a militarised version of the civilian MR308 variant. --commando552 04:29, 10 August 2012 (CDT)
Also, should the image be the standard version rather than the lightened patrol version:
--commando552 04:42, 10 August 2012 (CDT)
- Oh yeah. Still, it required the change on the page. Jeddostotle7 12:36, 10 August 2012 (CDT)
Should we include DDR Weapons?
Really excellent work! Just wondering though, should we include weapons used by East Germany/NVA in the out of service section as well?--Wildcards 12:42, 10 August 2012 (CDT)
Go ahead but make sure you dont put just NVA as people will confuse them for the North Vietnamese Army rather than National People's Army.Mr.Ice 12:48, 10 August 2012 (CDT)
GSG 9
I see that weapons used by GSG 9 are listed here. It's my understanding that they are a part of the federal police, not the military. Jimmoy (talk) 19:16, 31 July 2015 (EDT)
- The federal police (Formerly Bundesgrenzschutz) were apparently considered military combatants until 1994; although on the other hand it was legal to dpeloy them in Germany against "civilian" targets (Which is why the GSG 9 counter terror unit was created as a branch of the Bundesgrenzschutz; instead of the army). - FriendlyHornet 14:09, 27 February 2024 (BRT)
