+ | The Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket is an American pistol designed by John Moses Browning and produced by Colt's Manufacturing Company from 1908 to 1948. Designed to be a small, light, concealable pistol, the name and marketing touted its ability to be comfortably carried in the pocket of a men's vest daily. It is very similar visually and mechanically to the earlier FN Model 1905 and its successor, the Baby Browning. 420,705 were produced in total. Along with its popularity on the civilian market, some Model 1908s were used by clandestine forces during World War II, such as the British Special Operations Executive, favored as a back-up or holdout weapon due to its concealable nature.
+ | |||
+ | Like John Browning's other successful pocket pistol designs, the Model 1908 design was extensively copied, with numerous licensed and unlicensed models in existence.

It was produced by Manufacture d'Armes des Pyrénées (MAPF) in Hendaye circa 1925-1940. Virtually all the surviving brand names were abandoned after the German invasion in 1940 and the subsequent partition of France. For example, Lepco was a .25 ACP model made for the "Lepco Firearms Company" (L. Le Personne & Co. ), a distributor working in London. |

The most notable differences are the location of the safety lever and design of the front part of the barrel. |

The Type I MAB Model A is nearly identical to the Astra-Unceta Victoria 1911 Model pistols which were manufactured in large quantities in the Basque region of Northern Spain and Southern France in the first three decades of the 20th century. The Type II MAB Model A diverged from the design of the Eibar pistols, and features a number of simplifications designed to speed up manufacture. After the Second World War, MAB pistols were imported into the United States by the Western Arms Corporation, and later sold by its distributor, the Winfield Arms Corporation (WAC). |

The Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket and variants can be seen in the following films, television series, video games, and anime used by the following actors:
The Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket is an American pistol designed by John Moses Browning and produced by Colt's Manufacturing Company from 1908 to 1948.
Like John Browning's other successful pocket pistol designs, the Model 1908 design was extensively copied, with numerous licensed and unlicensed models in existence.

MAPF Unique mod 10
The MAPF Unique mod 10 is a French copy of the Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket.

Astra-Unceta Victoria 1911 Model
The Astra-Unceta Victoria 1911 Model is a Spanish copy of the Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket. It was produced in several calibers and barrel lengths from 1908 by the company Unceta y Esperanza (renamed Astra in 1914) based in Eibar in the north of Spain. The most notable differences are the location of the safety lever and design of the front part of the barrel.

MAB Model A Type II
The MAB Model A is a .25 ACP pocket pistol made by Manufacture d'armes de Bayonne (MAB) in France from 1925 to 1963.

Airsoft Replicas
Galaxy G1 Full Metal
The Galaxy G1 Full Metal is a full scale Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket replica airsoft pistol. One feature of it that can be identified from an actual Colt is the magazine release; the airsoft replica is modelled with both a button and heel magazine release, but the latter is cosmetic and only the button release is functional.
