Gankutsuou: The Counte of Monte Cristo (2004-2005)

Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo is a 26 episode science-fiction retelling of the classic novel by Alexandre Dumas. The anime is best known for its art style, utilizing 3D animation combined with 2D animation that instead of being colored with traditional techniques is filled in with textures that are either static or move independently from the animation, giving the show a distinct surreal appearance.

Just as Général Morcerf possesses a gold-plated pistol as a sign of his substantial wealth and power, so does Baron Danglars, who wields a gold Walther PPK near the series's finale.

Bolt-Action Shotgun

Albert and Général Fernand de Morcerf are seen shooting clays using bolt-action shotguns. This seems to be an odd choice of weapon, as the weapon is apparently rifled for slugs.

A number of Mauser Gewehr 1898 rifles can be seen hanging on the wall in the shooting range at the Morcerf Estate.

Expy Rifle

The soldiers under Général Morcerf's command are seen holding infantry rifles with affixed bayonets. These rifles are not drawn clearly enough to identify, and are likely meant to be copies of the various rifles used by the French military during the 19th century.
