The Afanasyev-Yakushev AYa-23 is a Soviet 23mm autocannon. Two different configurations exist; the air cooled 2A14 and the water cooled 2A7. The 2A14 is most commonly seen in the ZU-23-2 anti aircraft platform in twin configuration. ZU stands for Zenitnaya Ustanovka - anti-aircraft mount. The 2A7 is most commonly seen in the 2A10 quad mount in a configuration known as the AZP-23 Amur on the ZSU-23-4 Shilka self-propelled anti-aircraft gun . Some western films will use various machine guns such as the Browning M2 to stand in for the autocannons, while some museum piece ZSUs are known to have painted broomsticks as guns. A 25mm Chinese copy of the ZU-23-2 called the Type 87 anti-aircraft artillery (later known as PG87) was created in 1987. The name for the individual cannons is unknown. They are most commonly seen in mounted on the Type 95 SPAAA / PGZ95 self propelled anti-aircraft gun.
