The Walking Dead is the television post-apocalyptic horror series adaptation of the Image graphic novel series co-created by Robert Kirkman. The television series follows a group of survivors led by former Sheriff's Deputy Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) as they struggle to stay alive after a pandemic has nearly wiped out the human race and has caused the deceased to be resurrected as flesh-eating "walkers". The Walking Dead premiered on AMC in the US in 2010 and aired for 11 seasons until 2022. The series was initially adapted for television by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption), who also directed several episodes of the first season.

The Walking Dead proved to be a major success, spawning an entire universe of shows, including several spin-offs: Fear the Walking Dead, which premiered in the US on AMC in August of 2015, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, a limited series which premiered in October of 2020, Tales of The Walking Dead, an anthology series which premiered on AMC in August of 2022, as well as The Walking Dead: Dead City which had its premiere on AMC in June of 2023.
