+ | |||
+ | The Indonesian Armed Forces initially purchased 10,000 FN FNC in September 1980 and received the license to locally manufactured it in 1984. Pindad SS1 entered service with the Indonesian Armed Forces in 1991. The standard SS1-V1 variant is a direct copy of the FN FNC, with the ergonomics adjusted for average Indonesian stature. They are currently being phased out by the [[Pindad SS2]] series.

+ | '''Pindad SB1-V2''' or '''Pindad Sabhara V2''' is an SS1 variant chambered in 7.62x45mm Pindad, designed specifically for the ''Sabhara'' unit within the Indonesian National Police. The SB1-V2 is the short-barreled variant with 9.7-in barrel.
+ | |||
+ | Despite its similar dimension, Pindad's 7.62x45mm cartridge does not share any characteristic with the earlier Czech cartridge found on [[vz. 52 Rifle]]. The Pindad 7.62x45mm cartridge has a round nose-projectile and ballistically it's on par with the .30 Carbine cartridge.

FN CAL
The FN CAL (Carabine Automatic Légère) was a commercially unsuccessful 5.56mm rifle that paved the way for the FNC. It resembled the FAL visually, although it is a new design. The weapon uses a rotating bolt and could fire in 3 round bursts, with the 3-position ratchet resetting after the trigger is released, instead of when the burst is completed like on an M16A2. This means any incomplete burst (achieved by letting off the trigger before the third round has fired) will not be followed by just 1 or 2 rounds. While the magazines look like STANAG magazines, they are actually a proprietary design.
Specifications
(1966-1975)
- Type: Assault Rifle
- Caliber: 5.56x45mm NATO
- Weight: 6.61 lbs (3 kg)
- Length: 38.5 in (980 mm) (stock extended)
- Barrel Length: 18.3 in (46.7 cm)
- Feed System: 20, 25 or 30 round magazines.

Swedish FNC Variants
Ak 5
The Ak 5 (automatkarbin 5 - literal translation "automatic carbine 5") is the Swedish version of the FNC. The FNC was originally adopted and modified to replace the Ak 4, which was already in use by the Swedish Armed Forces. A DMR-version, fitted with a SUSAT 4X rifle scope and a raised stock comb piece, called the Ak 5B was introduced during the early 1990s.
Differences between the Ak 5 and the FNC include the handguard, which is wider at the bottom than on the original FN FNC, the larger charging handle, and the removed bolt hold open feature.
The Ak 5 was replaced by the upgraded Ak 5C in 2006.
Specifications
(1986 - 2006)
- Type: Assault Rifle
- Caliber: 5.56x45mm NATO
- Weight: 8.6 lbs (3.9 kg) unloaded.
- Length: 39.8 in (101.0 cm) (stock extended)
- Barrel Length: 17.7 in (44.9 cm)
- Feed System: STANAG Magazines (aluminum)
- Fire Modes: Semi-Auto / Full-Auto

Ak 5C
The original Ak 5 was replaced by the upgraded Ak 5C in 2006, which featured shortened barrel, a retractable folding stock, ambidextrous safety, bolt hold open device, a Picatinny rail with an Aimpoint CS (swe. Rödpunktsikte eldhandvapen) red dot sight, a new hand guard with integrated rail pieces and a detachable vertical grip. Also a new type of magazine (translucent polymer) was implemented to minimize weight and to work with the bolt hold open device. All Ak 5C are converted Ak 5 carbines.
Specifications
(2006-present)
- Type: Assault Rifle
- Caliber: 5.56x45mm NATO
- Weight: 9.9 lbs (4.5 kg) unloaded.
- Length: 35.9 in (91.4 cm) (Fully extended. Stock can be adjusted in length.)
- Barrel Length: 13.8 in (35 cm)

Ak 5D
The Ak 5D is a shorter version of the regular Ak 5 and is even shorter than the Ak 5C. It is in very limited use with the Swedish Armed Forces. The Ak 5D uses the same receiver though with a much shorter barrel. The prototypes also features an uncharacteristic carrying handle.

CGA5P
The CGA5P (short for Carl Gustav Automatkarbin 5 Polis) is a shortened version of the regular Ak 5 and predates both the Ak 5C and Ak 5D. The CGA5P was developed for the Swedish Police as a replacement for their aging HK53 carbines but has later been replaced by the G36C. It was also the primary weapon for the now defunct Swedish Auxiliary Police (Beredskapspolisen). The CGA5P can be distinguished from the Ak 5D in that it has a black finish rather than the green lacquer military finish. The prototypes also features an uncharacteristic carrying handle.

Pindad SS1
The Pindad SS1 series (Senapan Serbu 1 - literal translation "Assault Rifle 1") is the Indonesian version of the FNC produced under license by PT Pindad. They are most likely the FNC-type rifles seen in Indonesian movies.
The Indonesian Armed Forces initially purchased 10,000 FN FNC in September 1980 and received the license to locally manufactured it in 1984. Pindad SS1 entered service with the Indonesian Armed Forces in 1991. The standard SS1-V1 variant is a direct copy of the FN FNC, with the ergonomics adjusted for average Indonesian stature. They are currently being phased out by the Pindad SS2 series.
The Pindad SS1 and variants can be seen in the following films, television series, video games, and anime used by the following actors:
Pindad SS1-V1
Pindad SS1-V1 is the standard rifle variant of the SS1 series. The SS1-V1 produced for the Indonesian National Police (with the exception of the paramilitary Mobile Brigade Corps) lacks a bayonet lug.

Pindad SB1-V2
Pindad SB1-V2 or Pindad Sabhara V2 is an SS1 variant chambered in 7.62x45mm Pindad, designed specifically for the Sabhara unit within the Indonesian National Police. The SB1-V2 is the short-barreled variant with 9.7-in barrel.
Despite its similar dimension, Pindad's 7.62x45mm cartridge does not share any characteristic with the earlier Czech cartridge found on vz. 52 Rifle. The Pindad 7.62x45mm cartridge has a round nose-projectile and ballistically it's on par with the .30 Carbine cartridge.
