The following weapons were used in the film The Wind and the Lion:

Handguns

Mauser C96

A Mauser C96 is used in a memorable scene by German Army Colonel Von Roerkel (Antoine Saint-John). The Colonel is on horseback with a saber in one hand and the Mauser C96 "Broomhandle" in the other. All the while battling Sheik Raisuli (Sean Connery). Great fun.

Smith & Wesson M&P

Used by United States Ambassador to Morocco Gummere (Geoffrey Lewis). While watching the U.S. Marines marching towards the palace in Tangiers, to seize control of the Moroccan government, he is holding an Smith & Wesson M&P behind his back. Evidently, he doesn't have full confidence in peaceful diplomacy or diplomatic immunity.

Smith & Wesson Model 10

U.S.M.C. Capt. Jerome (Steve Kanaly) appears to be carrying a Smith & Wesson Model 10 during the assault on the palace in Tangiers and during the battle in the village at the end of the movie.

Webley Bulldog revolver

A popular style of revolver in the late 19th century with gentlemen. The ancestor of the modern-day "snubbie". This style of revolver was made by different companies in Europe and the United States. Used by Sir Joseph, Eden Pedicaris's British luncheon guest at the beginning of the movie when Raisuli's men attack. Sir Joseph (Billy Williams) pulls out a Webley Bulldog and uses it very effectively - until it runs out of ammo.

Colt New Navy & Army revolver

The Colt New Army & Navy 38 caliber revolver is seen in the hands of William Pedecaris (Simon Harrison), when he pulled it out of the holster Capt. Jerome (Steve Kanaly), which has paradoxically later different weapon in his hand.

Rifles

Winchester Model 1895

President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt (Brian Keith) is shown firing the sporting version of the Winchester Model 1895 and also admiring a highly engraved Winchester 1895. Roosevelt was a fan of Winchester rifles and the Winchester Model 1895 is reported to have been his favorite model. Director John Milius is also a fan of the Winchester 1895 and would again have Roosevelt, as played by Tom Berenger, carry the sport version of the 1895 in the miniseries Rough Riders twenty-two years later. In the commentary on the DVD, John Milius states that the engraved Winchester seen in the movie was actually a plain Jane field model that was painted by a elderly craftsman in Spain - where the movie was filmed.

Krag-Jørgensen Model 1896

The U.S. Model 1896 Krag-Jorgensen is used by U.S. Navy and U.S. Marines throughout the movie. Historically inaccurate. In 1904 the Marines and Navy would have been carrying the Winchester-Lee Rifle in 6mm Lee. But the director of the movie, John Milius, has acknowledged this and stated that the production simply couldn't find enough operating Winchester-Lees to use. So the production had to compromise. It's not entirely historically inaccurate for US Marines to have Krag rifles in the film. The Navy bought their first Krags in 1900 and they were phasing out the Lee-Navy rifle at that time, but still the majority of Marines would have still be armed with Lee-Navy rifles in 1904 and would be until around 1910 when the Lees and Krags would start to be supplanted by M1903 rifles.

Mauser Model 1924

President "Teddy" Roosevelt (Brian Keith) is shown firing a M24 Serbian Mauser on his private firing range. It is also used by some of the Sheik Raisuli's men. William Pedecaris (Simon Harrison) disarms guards when escaping from captivity.

Mauser Model 1893

Sheikh Rausili (Sean Connery) and several of his men carry 1893 Spanish Mauser rifles, often decorated Arab-style with brass banded stocks and ornate slings. This weapon is also used by some German soldiers.

Mauser Model 1943

Several Berber warriors carry also anachronistic M43 Spanish Mauser rifles. It is also used by German soldiers.

German soldiers fire their M43 Spanish Mausers from cover. Note that they are wearing khaki uniforms (somewhat similar to the ones issued to colonial troops in Africa) and Pickelhaubes; in reality those uniforms were worn with slouch hats and sun helmets. The Pickelhaubes are also fitted with plain covers which were only introduced during WW1; (in 1904 the covers still had red regimental numbers sewn on the front)

Martini Henry rifle

President "Teddy" Roosevelt (Brian Keith) is shown firing what appears to be a "sporterized" Martini-Henry Mk. III on his private firing range. Possibly it's one of the Martini-Henry rifles that were modified by the British gunsmiths Greener or Rigby.

Mauser Model 1894

Many of the German troops in the climactic battle scene are shown wielding historically inaccurate 1894 Swedish Mauser Carbines.

Winchester 1897

The Winchester Model 1897 is used by U.S. Marines in the movie. Also used (effectively) by Mrs. Pedicaris (Candice Bergen). Carried, but never fired, by Sheik Raisuli (Sean Connery) and young William Pedecaris (Simon Harrison).

Machine guns

Colt Model 1895

The U.S. Navy sailors in the landing party in Tangiers bring an Colt 1895 Automatic Machine Gun (historically correct) with them, but never fire it. The director, John Milius, has stated that it was a non-firing mock-up. The production was unable to locate a Model 1895 that was functioning. Twenty-two years later Milius would have two functioning Colt 1914 Machine Guns in Rough Riders. The actual weapon seen in the movie is a Colt 1914 Automatic Machine Gun which is similar to the 1895 except the 1914 has a finned barrel and the 1895 does not.

Maxim MG08

Sultan of Morocco (Marc Zuber) fired a German Maxim MG08 machine gun. The story takes place in 1904 so the use of this Model is anachronistic.
