The Return of Doctor Mabuse
|
The Return of Doctor Mabuse (German title Im Stahlnetz des Dr. Mabuse ("In the steel net of Dr. Mabuse"); US re-release title The Phantom Fiend) is a 1961 co-production German-French-Italian B&W crime thriller directed by Harald Reinl. This is the second installment in the Dr. Mabuse film series by CCC Films and a sequel to Fritz Lang's The Thousand Eyes of Dr. Mabuse (1960). German Police Commissioner Lohmann (Gert Fröbe) ivestigates the activities of an international crime organisation. It turns out that the mind behind the crimes is the archvillain Dr. Mabuse who everyone believes is dead.
The following weapons were used in the film The Return of Doctor Mabuse:
Revolvers
NHM Model 9 Revolver
The church sexton (Jean-Roger Caussimon) holds an NHM Model 9 revolver when he appears as Dr. Mabuse. What appear to be revolvers of same model are seen in hands of police personnel during the shootout at the nuclear power plant.
Enfield No.2
In the final scene Commissioner Lohmann (Gert Fröbe) holds an Enfield No.2 revolver. Some police officers also use Enfield revolvers.
Unidentified revolvers
Some handguns are seen during the shootout at the nuclear power plant. The scene is set in the night, and most guns are seen briefly and in distance. Some of these revolvers look rather Western-style, maybe they were taken from the set of some Euro-Western that was filmed on same studio.
Pistols
Franz Stock Pistol
When Commissioner Lohmann (Gert Fröbe) confronts the fake Mabuse, he is armed with a Franz Stock Pistol. Judging by the barrel length, this is the Type 1 pistol.
Sauer 1913
Joe Como (Lex Barker) carries a Sauer 1913 pistol.
Luger P08
Ispector Voss' (Joachim Mock) sidearm is a Luger P08 pistol. Lugers are also seen in hands of several other police detectives.
Submachine Guns
MP40
A number of mentally controlled convicts are armed with MP40 SMGs during the attack on the nuclear power plant.
PPS-43
A PPS-43 is seen in hands of a convict.
Sterling
A Sterling submachine gun is seen in hands of a police officer.
Rifles
Unidentified rifles
Both mentally controlled convicts and police personnel at the defence of the nuclear power plant use unidentified rifles, seen very briefly and unclear.
Machine Guns
Bren Mk 2
A Bren is used by the police personnel during the shootout at the nuclear power plant. The short flash hider allows to guess the machine gun to be Mk 2.
Other Weapons
Flamethrower
A custom flamethrower, mounted inside a truck, is used as a murder weapon.
