Arisaka -Writer's commentary
This is the one, officer. This is the movie that kickstarted my documentation of Mikhail Red's work on IMFDB, my weird obsession with Arisaka rifles, and the Philippine-produced push I've been trying to do for this site. I haven't even fully watched this movie when I wrote this one, and I still haven't fully seen it when I wrote this section, but it seems like a somewhat solid action thriller. Reviews for this movie online haven't exactly been very kind to it, though. I've seen people calling it pretty pointless, uninspired, and kinda offensive to the Philippines' history with the Imperial Japanese, and the Aeta minority group that lives in the countryside. Other than that though, I think the guns in it were pretty cool. I already had a bit of a love for the Arisaka rifle series thanks to Girls' Last Tour, and finding out that the director of Block Z was working on a movie named after the rifle caught my attention. What surprised me even more is that despite the rifle's importance in the film's climax, the word "Arisaka" isn't even said throughout the movie... pretty wacky About that obsession with the Arisaka... thanks to that sniping scene in the climax, I've been trying to do epic Type 99 sniping action in games like GMod, World at War, Rising Storm 1, Ravenfield, Running With Rifles, Project Zomboid, Sniper Elite III... yeah, I tried to recreate it in a lot of games. And apparently the Type 99 is being teased as a Season 2 weapon for Sniper Elite 5... and you can actually customize and take off sniper scopes in that game.... oh boy, the full Mariano experience is waiting for me when that rifle eventually gets released All in all, I'm really happy that I was also able to write this article for IMFDB, and I hope to see more awesome Arisaka sniping action in pretty much anything in the future, despite this film's quality. --Dnkakusei (talk) 08:14, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
