The Beretta Cougar (also called the 8000 series) is a line of hammer-fired, semi-automatic pistols manufactured by Beretta. The Cougar was Beretta's first ever rotating barrel design, and was intended to be a smaller alternative to the 92FS yet still suitable for duty and personal use. The design's rotating barrel allows the Cougar to have comparable low recoil to a full size Beretta 92, despite being much smaller and a few ounces lighter. The Cougar series was produced in various calibers and sizes from 1994 until 2004, when Beretta acquired Stoeger and sold the tooling and design for the Cougar to the company. Stoeger produced Cougars from 2006 to about 2017, when they were discontinued in favor of the polymer Stoeger STR line. However, the series lives on in the Beretta Px4 Storm line, which is a very similar design, albeit with a polymer frame.

Beretta Cougar Inox
Selected Cougar versions are available in an Inox finish, where the slide and barrel are made from stainless steel, and the lower frame is made from silver anodized light alloy. They were produced only in 2004.
