American Outlaws is a 2001 American western directed by Les Mayfield which is loosely based on the James-Younger-Gang. When the sons of the James and Younger families return to their farms in Missouri after the end of the Civil War, the next enemy is already waiting for them in the form of railroad tycoon Rains and his Pinkerton henchmen. After one provocation too many, Jesse James takes command and leads his childhood friends into a seemingly hopeless guerrilla battle against the sheriff, the state, and big business.

Jesse James (Colin Farrell) carries two Colt 1851 Navy revolvers throughout the film, even carrying four in the opening battle when he fires akimbo from a horse with the reins in his teeth. Cole Younger (Scott Caan) and Bob Younger (Will McCormack) also use a Navy '51s during the opening battle. The soldiers on the train transporting Jesse to prison at the end also have Navys. All have been converted to fire metal cartridges but still have the loading lever to look like a percussion revolver.

Revolvers

Colt 1851 Navy Percussion

Jesse James (Colin Farrell) carries two Colt 1851 Navy revolvers throughout the film, even carrying four in the opening battle when he fires akimbo from a horse with the reins in his teeth. Cole Younger (Scott Caan) and Bob Younger (Will McCormack) also use a Navy '51s during the opening battle. The soldiers on the train transporting Jesse to prison at the end also have Navys. All have been converted to fire metal cartridges but still have the loading lever to look like a percussion revolver.
