Jonah Hex
|
Jonah Hex is a 2010 Western supernatural starring Josh Brolin as the title character, a scarred bounty hunter who possesses the power to bring people back from the dead. He is asked by President Ulysses S. Grant to try to stop a vengeful ex-Confederate general-turned-terrorist (who is also responsible for the death of Hex's family) from destroying the U.S. with a stolen "superweapon". The film was adapted from the DC Comic book series and the character was also adapted into the CW series Legends of Tomorrow.
The following weapons were used in the film Jonah Hex:
Handguns
Single Action Army Cavalry
Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin) carries two Single Action Army Cavalry revolvers as his sidearms. Lilah (Megan Fox) also uses dual Single Action Army revolvers as she and Hex fight to escape Turnbull's Confederate ironclad.

During the opening flashback to Jonah Hex's (Josh Brolin) years with the Confederate Army, Hex is seen wielding a Colt 1851 Navy from horseback.

Colt Thuer Derringer
Lilah (Megan Fox) keeps a Colt Thuer Derringer in her room for self-protection. She pulls it to get rid of her obsessed client, Grayden Nash (Rio Hackford), who later sneaks it from its hiding place and fires it at her. Missing once, he puts it to her head and fires again, but she informs him that it is a single-shot weapon.
LeMat 1861
Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich) carries a LeMat 1861 revolver as his sidearm and uses it throughout the film.

Remington 1858 New Army
Hex is also seen pulling a Remington 1858 New Army on Lt. Evan (John Gallagher Jr.) in one scene.

Remington Double Derringer
In the imagined fight in Hell between Hex and Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich), Turnbull is seen using dual Remington Double Derringers. Hex then picks up one of these and shoots Turnbull twice with it. Lilah (Megan Fox) also poses with the Remington for the theatrical release poster.

Shotguns
Stevens 12-Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun
Burke (Michael Fassbender) critically wounds Hex by giving him both barrels from his 12-Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun.

Winchester Model 1887
One of the guards outside Col. Slocum's (Tom Wopat) fight ring appears to be holding a Winchester Model 1887 shotgun (which is an anachronism when the film is supposed to take place in 1876, the year of the national centennial).

Rifles
Colt Model 1855
In the opening flashback, a Confederate sniper is armed with a scoped Colt Model 1855 Revolving Rifle.
Enfield Pattern 1853
The Enfield Pattern 1853 rifle is seen used by Confederate troops at the beginning of the film.
Springfield 1873
Union soldiers on the train are armed with Springfield 1873 "Trapdoor" rifles.
Sharps 1874 Buffalo Rifle
When Hex is double-crossed in Stunk Crick by the local authorities, a deputy hiding in the church's bell tower tries to snipe him with a Sharps 1874 Buffalo Rifle.
Springfield 1873 "Trapdoor" Carbine
Union soldiers who confront Hex are seen carrying the Springfield 1873 "Trapdoor" Carbine.

Winchester Model 1866 "Yellow Boy"
The Winchester Model 1866 "Yellow Boy" is seen in the hands of both Jonah Hex and Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich).
Winchester Model 1873
Hex and a few of Turnbull's men are seen using the Winchester Model 1873 rifle.

Other
Colt 1874 Gatling Gun
Hex also carries dual hand-cranked Gatling Guns on the saddles of his horse.
Pistol-Gripped Crossbows
Two pistol-gripped crossbows are given to Jonah Hex as well. The crossbows are magazine-fed and shoot sticks of dynamite.
Flamethrower
While on the Confederate ironclad, Hex is also seen using a flamethrower to take out a few of Turnbull's men.
Dynamite Bundles

Revolving Cannons
The "superweapon" that is the focus of the film's plot is a belt-fed Gatling-style cannon (similar to an oversized, clunkier CIWS system) supposedly invented by Eli Whitney (the father of the cotton gin). The weapon is designed to blanket an area with a volley of explosive shells, which are then detonated simultaneously by firing a glowing orange "trigger" shell from the central barrel. Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich) mounts the weapon on an ironclad and plans to use it to level Washington, D.C.
Wall of Guns
When Jonah Hex visits Smith (Lance Reddick), the guns displayed in his secret workshop include:
- Remington 1858 "Cattleman's Carbine";
- Colt Model 1855 Revolving Rifle;
- the previously-used Gatling Guns;
- Nock Gun;
- and some very steampunk-looking rifles
