The Type 79 is a Chinese submachine gun. The weapon was designed from 1970 to 1979 by No. 208 Research Institute, today a subsidiary of China South Industries Group, based on an even earlier submachine gun design developed from 1965-1969. They appear to have been primarily manufactured by China's Factory 346, though a "Shanghai-made" clone (exact manufacturer unknown) also exists.
