Schießbecher

Schießbecher rifle grenade launcher for the Kar98k - 30x250mm
Schießbecher rifle grenade launcher for the FG 42 - 30x250mm

The Gewehrgranatengerät ("rifle grenade device"), also known as Schießbecher ("shooting cup," note that it is spelled with an "ie" instead of "ei", which means something much more unfortunate), was a WWII-era German rifle grenade launcher. It had a rifled barrel that could be attached to the muzzle of Kar98k, FG 42, StG 44 and several other German rifles. The Gewehr 43 could not be equipped with grenade launchers. Due to the simplified design of the barrel muzzle. It had no bayonet mount or thread on the barrel, which made it impossible to mount grenade launchers. Many games use the fact that this was a very popular weapon from World War II and despite its design impossibility, a grenade launcher appears in the game anyway. The launcher fired 30mm grenades with 250mm length.

The types of grenades that can be fired from the Schießbecher include:

  • Gewehr-Panzergranate: Shaped charge anti-armor
  • Gross Gewehr-Panzergranate: Improved shaped charge anti-armor
  • Gross Panzergranate 46 & 61: High-powered shaped charge anti-armor
  • Gewehr-Sprenggranate: High-explosive antipersonnel
  • Propaganda-Gewehrgranate: Fires leaflets for propaganda purposes

Gewehr-Granatwerfer 40

Gewehr Granatwerfer 40 / Rifle grenade launcher 40 - 40mm
Gewehr-Granatpatrone 40 / Rifle grenade 40 - 40mm

The "Gewehr-Granatwerfer 40" grenade launcher/adapter was designed because the "Gewehr-Granatpatrone 40" grenade did not fit into the "Schießbecher" grenade launcher/adapter. Only this one grenade was made for this grenade launcher. The Gewehr-Granatpatrone 40 or GGP/40 for short was a shaped charge rifle grenade used by German forces during the Second World War. It was originally developed for Luftwaffe Fallschirmjäger units to provide them with a light and portable anti-tank weapon. Using own spigot type launcher. Unlike the rifle grenades used by the army the GGP/40 did not fit inside the Schiessbecher but instead, it had a rubber gasket at the base and fit around the Schiessbecher and was held in place by a clip. The GGP/40 was propelled by a rifle cartridge that fired a hollow wooden bullet instead of a blank cartridge.
