Planet of the Apes (1968)
Planet of the Apes is the 1968 science fiction film starring Charlton Heston as a human astronaut stranded on a mysterious planet where apes are the highly intelligent species and humans are regarded as animals. The film, which was adapted from the Pierre Boulle novel, was directed by Franklin J. Schaffner (Patton) and would spawn 4 sequels, a 1974 television series, a 2001 "reimagining" directed by Tim Burton and as well as a new "reboot" series of films which began with 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Planet of the Apes was also considered the first of Heston's unofficial trilogy of post apocalyptic films which included The Omega Man and Soylent Green.

Rifles
Apes Rifle (modified M1 Carbine)
The main rifle used by the Apes in the film is a visually modified M1 Carbine. The M1 was housed in a wood case that disguised the barrel as well as the magazine. Astronaut Taylor (Charlton Heston) is also seen using the rifle after entering the Forbidden Zone. For the background extras, wooden replicas were used.


Handguns
Colt 1903 Hammerless
At the beginning of the movie, Taylor checks his survival pack, in which a Colt Model 1903 with wood grips is seen.
