Margolin MCM
The Margolin pistol is a series of Soviet/Russian target pistols designed by blind Russian gunsmith Mikhail Vladimirovich Margolin in the 1940s. They have seen use in international athletic events and have been exported as high-quality target pistols.
Guns under the series are given the designation of «МЦ», which can be transliterated as MC or MTs — disagreement exists on what «МЦ» stands for, as some sources state they stand for «Марголина, целевой» (Margolina tselevoy, lit. "Margolin's targeted [pistol]"), while others state they stand for «Модель ЦКИБ СОО» (model' TsKIB SOO, lit. "TsKIB SOO model", TsKIB SOO being the bureau where the gun's designs were supposedly prepared); the latter matches the designations of other "MTs"-designated weapons designed by TsKIB SOO.
The weapon is produced by Izhevsk Mechanical Plant (Izhmekh) since 1948 in several variants:
- MC-1: The original variant of the Margolin pistol. Nearly identical to the later, more famous MCM, but features a manual safety on the left side of the gun.
- MCM (Russian: МЦМ; "M" is believed to stand for either modernizirovanniy, lit. "modernized", or malocalibernyy, lit. "small caliber", and only in the context of the Margolina tselevoy name): A modernized variant of the MC-1, featuring minor part changes and the removal of the manual safety on the left side of the gun.
- MCU (Russian: МЦУ; "U" is believed to stand for umenshennoy moshnosty, lit. "reduced power"): A variant of the MCM chambered in .22 Short, intended for rapid-fire shooting competitions.
Export versions of pistol have been branded under Izhmekh's export brands of "Baikal" and "Vostok". Variations of the Margolin pistol have been observed with barrel weights, slight barrel length changes, and/or target grips, and other target pistols have been attributed with names suggesting a relation to MC-1, such as MC 1-2 and MC 1-3. Regardless, most sources identify the main named variants of the Margolin pistol as the above three.
A short-barreled version of the MCM known as the MCM-K (see below) was designed in the 1990s. China has also produced its own Margolin MCM clones, under the name Dongfeng-3 sport pistol (Chinese: 东风三运动手枪), as a part of China's Dongfeng series of sport pistols.

MCM-K Margo
MCM-K, also transliterated as MTsM-K, (Russian: МЦМ-К; "K" is believed to stand for Короткий, Korotkiy, lit. "short") is a short-barreled derivative of the MCM designed by Vladimir Alexandrovich Yarygin in 1990. It was produced since 1992, and has been exported from Russia since its introduction, under the export name "Margo" (Russian: Марго).
IZh-77 is the blank firing replica of Margo in 7.6 and 8mm calibers. They can be distinguished by the lack of rear sights and lower front sight compared to the original MCM-K. A version of Margo in 5.45×18mm caliber is known as "Drel" (lit. Drill). An export version of the Margo in .25 ACP is known as MP-449.
