AK-Alfa with 16.3" barrel, 90 degree gas block and Hartman MH1 reflex sight - 7.62x39mm
AK-Alfa with 12.4" barrel, 45 degree gas block, KeyMod forend and MH1 reflex sight - 7.62x39mm. This is the only known image of an AK-Alfa with a KeyMod foreend.

The AK-Alfa is a modernized version of the Kalashnikov rifle designed by Israeli firearm accessory company CAA. Outside of the United States, the rifle is manufactured by and branded under Kalashnikov Israel, a CAA subsidiary created with the support of Russia's Kalashnikov Concern.

In the United States, the rifle appears to be manufactured by and branded under Kalashnikov USA, the business name of RWC Group, LLC (who are fully separate from Kalashnikov Concern, but use branding identical to Kalashnikov Concern's "Kalashnikov" brand seemingly without license). Kalashnikov USA have noted the rifle's Israeli design origins in their trade show communications, but did not specify CAA's involvment. That said, sources have stated that the AK-Alfa was planned to be manufactured in USA by a factory operated directly by the CAA through CAA USA.

As CAA (including CAA USA) is primarily a firearm accessory maker with no firearm making experience, it seems that the AK-Alfa was primarily a furniture revamp with no changes done to the AK's functional components, which are supplied from proper AK manufacturers. Sources have claimed that AK-Alfas produced by CAA of Israel were built around Russian-made Saiga semi-auto AK rifles. Given the sanctions placed on Kalashnikov Concern by the United States of America, it seems likely that AK-Alfas produced by CAA USA/Kalashnikov USA were built around American-made AKs made by Kalashnikov USA.

Kalashnikov Israel AK-Alfas are much more standardized than Kalashnikov USA AK-Alfas, usually featuring muzzle devices with two portings on each side and the top, 90-degree gas blocks, and receivers with a cutout on the left side underneath the charging handle port; all of these features can be seen in the first image to the right. Kalashnikov USA AK-Alfas are much less standardized, and usually feature 45 degree gas blocks, non-standard muzzle devices, and sometimes receivers without a cutout underneath the charging handle.
