Thor: Ragnarok is the 2017 superhero film that is the third installment in the Thor standalone film series. Chris Hemsworth returns as the God of Thunder, who is banished to a planet where he must fight an old friend in order to gain his freedom. The film was directed by Taika Waititi and is part of "Phase Three" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that includes Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Black Panther and will culminate in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War and 2019's Avengers: Endgame. In 2022, the fourth part was released - Thor: Love and Thunder.
