Assassin's Creed Unity is the eighth part of the Assassin's Creed series. Like its predecessors, it belongs to the action-adventure genre. The game is set in 18th-century Paris at the time of the French Revolution and follows the main character, Arno Victor Dorian. The latter has French and Austrian ancestors. In his youth he suffered a heavy loss: both his biological father and stepfather died under mysterious circumstances. Arno was falsely framed for the murder of his stepfather, which is why he was locked up in the Bastille, from which he escaped together with an assassin during the storming of the Bastille. Later it turns out that his stepfather was a high-ranking Templar, and so was his daughter Élise, with whom Arno had fallen in love. After escaping from the Bastille, he joins the Assassins to uncover the true forces behind the French Revolution.

Throughout the game, as in the other Assassin's Creed parts, the player will meet some historical characters such as Maximilien de Robespierre, the Marquis de Sade, as well as Napoléon Bonaparte, and many others. In addition to the familiar sneak passages, for which the cover system has once again been reworked so that Arno can now move freely while sneaking, the action-packed battles also return in a revised form. In addition to a sword and a pistol, Arno can also use the new Phantom Blade, which can shoot berserkers and normal blades, a combination of the classic hidden blade and a small crossbow.

The Denix-produced replica of the Kentucky Flintlock pistol appears simply as the "Pistol". Is used by various characters and as a ranged weapon of most enemies. Is also incorrectly used by the Gendarmerie in the "Belle Epoque: Data Harvest" side mission instead of the more correct MAS 1873 revolver.

American Flintlock

American Flintlock is a four-barrel turnover flintlock Pistol. Despite its name, the American Flintlock is actually based on a three-barrel turnover pistol made in Augsburg allegedly in 1775, more specifically the Denix-produced four-barrel replica which itself appears to be a hybrid consisting of the grip of the 1775 Augsburg pistol and the four barrels of a 1750 made Augsburg pistol shown in the old gun's magazine Deutsches Waffen-Journal. This would appear to contradict the lore in Assassin's Creed canon that the firearm is of American origin.

Pepper Shot

Pepper Shot is a six-barrel flintlock Pistol. It is mostly based on English-style percussion pepperbox revolving pistols of the 1830/40s such as the ones made by Cogswell, Smith of London, or Piper of Cambridge. However, the fact that the pistol is depicted with both a flintlock mechanism and percussion caps shows that the modeler wasn't aware of the working principles of percussion weapons.

Solid Long Gun actually based on ivory-stocked Dutch flintlock pistols of the 17th century, particularly the ones crafted by Dutch gunmaker Leonardus Graeff. What appears to be the same model, but is depicted being made of maple instead of ivory is featured in the "Underground Armory Pack" as the "French Cavalry Pistol".

Parade Pistol

The Parade Pistol featured in the "Secrets of the Revolution" pack is based on the pair of ornate flintlock pistols made by Nicolas Noel Boutet for Joachim Murat. These pistols were made in Versailles in 1805-1810 therefore the design is anachronistic for the French Revolution setting of Unity.

Harper's Ferry Flintlock

The same Harper's Ferry Flintlock from Assassin's Creed III and Assassin's Creed IV is seen being used by Élise de la Serre in cutscenes and gameplay, besides other characters. Its appearance in the French Revolution is anachronistic as the first model was not made until 1805.

Brown Bess Musket

The "Flint Musket", "Rifle" and, "National Guard Musket" are actually the Brown Bess Flintlock Musket. While the "Rifle" and "National Guard Musket" are only purchasable by the player, the "Flint Musket" is used by Patriots sharpshooters, and also incorrectly used by Wehrmacht Feldgendarmerie (military police) soldiers in the "Occupied Paris: Covert" side mission instead of a more appropriate Kar98k.
