The series is set in post-WWII Moscow. Two MUR (Moscow Department of Criminal Investigations) detectives - Gleb Zheglov (Vladimir Vysotsky) and Vladimir Sharapov (Vladimir Konkin) - investigate the murder of a young actress and hunt for a gang of robbers calling themselves the "Black Cats".
The Age of Mercy is the title of a novel by the Vayner Brothers on which the movie is based.
