Journey's End is a 1930 British-American World War I film directed by James Whale based on the novel of the same name by R. C. Sherriff. The movie shows the everyday life of a British squad under the command of Capt. Denis Stanhope (Colin Clive) in 1918, 3 days before the German Spring Offensive ("Operation Michael"). On this eve of battle the young Lt. Raleigh (David Manners), an old school friend, is assigned to his company. Stanhope is engaged to his sister and is afraid that he will tell her his broken state. Then Raleigh is sent to a trench raiding mission and meets the horrors of war.
