Talk:Jatimatic
Movie appereances
I don't know who wrote the part that there are no Jatimatics currently in US movie armories, but I don't think that's true. Jatimatic, altough a commercial failure, was mostly sold as an export product. There were a few hundred pieces made (some sources say anywhere from 300 to 1000 pieces), and most of them found their way overseas. The Finnish government revoked TAO's license for selling weapons in 1985, mainly because of Finland's extremely strict rules on weapon exporting. That was a major factor in why TAO went broke, and before it went bankrubt, Jali Timari (the designer of the weapon) was even convicted for weapons smuggling.
I think I have seen the Jatimatic in movies in the 2010s, most notably From Paris with Love. Can't remember any other appereances off the top of my head... --Warejaws (talk) 14:06, 6 March 2015 (EST)
- It looks like MPM added that bit. If anyone would know, I guess it would be him. --Funkychinaman (talk) 14:27, 6 March 2015 (EST)
- Oh, and I read that wrong. "Surprisingly, there were no Jatimatics in"... Just noticed that past tense. But I guess when the Jatimatic came out in the 1980s, it's possible that TAO could have made promotional deals like that back then, at least until it would "break through" so to speak. But I'm willing to bet my left nut that Jatimatics exist in at least some movie armories nowadays... --Warejaws (talk) 14:37, 6 March 2015 (EST)
- I knew I remembered correctly. Below are two shots of a Jatimatic from Paris with Love (altough, I'm pretty sure this was filmed in France, so it would have used French armorers):

- Most of that top paragraph I re-posted from the Cobra page, since another user removed it. I didn't want to lose that info but also didn't feel it was entirely right to revert that edit and re-post it back on the film page so I re-located here (I ended up keeping much of it on the Cobra page anyway though). As for the notation on it's existence in US movie armory inventory, I don't really know - that part was already here on the page. If it was posted by MPM, I'd have to say it's accurate.
