Operation Flashpoint: Red River
|
Operation Flashpoint: Red River is a tactical shooter video game developed and published by Codemasters for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. It is the sequel to the 2009 Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising, and was built on the EGO Engine. The game was released in Europe on April 21, 2011 and later in North America on June 7 in the same year.
The storyline takes place in Tajikistan in 2013, during a fictional conflict between the United States Marine Corps, Tajik insurgents, and later the People's Liberation Army of China.
The game is heavily simplified compared to Dragon Rising but retains some of the tactical elements, for instance, every bullet-firing weapon can Jam when firing, requiring the player to hit the reload key to clear the Jam with a unique animation. (Except for Pistols, which just use the reload animation, Jamming has also been tweaked as picked up enemy weapons have a signifficantly higher chance to Jam without equipping relevant unlocked skills to reduce jamming compared to US weapons.)
The following weapons appear in the video game Operation Flashpoint: Red River:
Handguns
A notable addition (not present when using mouse and keyboard controls) is that each weapon now has a "Handling" stat which caps the player's turning speed when a weapon is equipped. Both pistols - the MEU(SOC) and QSZ-92 - are the only firearms that don't slow down the player's turning speed.
MEU(SOC)
The MEU(SOC) is the main sidearm of the USMC. The MEU(SOC) is used by the Rifleman, Auto Rifleman (Machine Gunner) and Scout (Sniper) classes and can be unlocked for the Grenadier class.
QSZ-92
The QSZ-92 is the main sidearm of the PLA, unlike Dragon Rising only PLA Snipers and AA troopers carry it.
Submachine Guns
Heckler & Koch MP5A4
The MP5A4 is the secondary weapon used by the Grenadier class and can be unlocked for the Scout. The weapon if fitted with a Picatinny rail on the top of the receiver, a SureFire 628 Forend WeaponLight (but for some reason having the flashlight hanging rather than fitted as part of the forend), and a different flash hider, the Scout gets exclusive access to a suppressor for the weapon.
Unfortunately, the MP5 and QCQ were nerfed hard compared to Dragon Rising, both weapons have absurd bullet spread even when tap-firing (if not set to Single Shot) that can be compared to shotguns in other video games, the handguns actually have more accuracy compared to them, making them relatively ineffective spray and pray weapons.
Jianshe QCQ-05
The official website has confirmed that the Jianshe QCQ-05 is the standard submachine gun for the PLA forces in-game, it is used by PLA Crew and AT Troops.
Assault Rifles
Colt M4A1 Carbine
The M4A1 is one of the main weapons the Marines use, attached with a MaTech rear iron sight, AN/PEQ-2 laser designator, and SureFire Universal WeaponLight. Optionally, it can be fitted with an Aimpoint CompM2 red dot, Trijicon TA31RCO ACOG scope, EOTech EOLAD 551 holographic sight, and M203A1 grenade launcher.
Colt M16A4
The M16A4 is the standard issue rifle of the Marines, can be seen attached with iron sights, Aimpoint M68 CCO, Trijicon TA31RCO ACOG scope, SureFire Universal WeaponLight and M203A2 grenade launcher. The in-game model of the M16A4 seems to have been based on the Canadian C7A1 rifle (cylindrical handguard and the small rails attached to the front sight post) rather than the M16A4 with the KAC M5 RAS handguard.
Izhmash AK-47
The AK-47 is confirmed by the official website to be the primary assault rifle of the Tajikistani insurgents, a scoped version called the "AK47M" equipped with a PSO-1 scope is used by insurgent snipers.
QBZ-03
According to the official website, the QBZ-03 assault rifle will also be used by some PLA troops in-game, it is seemingly always equipped with a red dot sight.
QBZ-95
The QBZ-95 is the standard issue rifle of the PLA, attached with underbarrel QLG-91B grenade launcher.

The M249 is also the main weapon of the Auto-Rifleman class, and used by Cpl. Ryan Balletto as seen in the gameplay video of Fireteam Outlaw 2 Bravo.

The M39 Enhanced Marksman Rifle will be one of the Scout's weapons. It is fitted with a TS-30.xx series Leupold Mark 4 day scope same as the M14 DMR, AN/PEQ-2 TPIAL laser designator, and an optional KAC M4/M16 QDSS-NT4 Suppressor.
Barrett M107
The Barrett M107 is one of the available sniper rifles in-game used by the United States Marine Corps. The rifle is called "Model M107 SN" in-game. This is redundant, since "M" in M107 already means "Model," making the name literally "Model Model 107 SN". It has no available attachments as it is only available as a pick-up in missions.
QBU-88
The QBU-88 light sniper rifle is the sniper rifle for the PLA forces in-game.
Shotguns
Benelli M4 Super 90
The Benelli M4 Super 90 appears as the USMC Shotgun.
Only the Grenadier class can equip it from the loadout menu.
Stoeger Model 2000
The Stoeger Model 2000 is the standard combat shotgun for the PLA forces in-game, it is always found with a holographic sight.
Launchers
Red River continues the depiction of the heavyweight nature of rocket/missile launchers that was first introduced in Dragon Rising; as most of them (barring the Stinger) lay the launcher or its control units to the ground during the deploy and reload animations.
Both underbarrel grenade launchers incorrectly eject unspent casings when reloading.
Mk 153 SMAW
The Mk 153 SMAW appears as the standard anti-tank weapon of the USMC and it is exclusively used by players (as there is no command for the AI teammates to pick them up).
It is not available from the loadout menu and must be found from mid-mission weapon crates.
FGM-148 Javelin
The FGM-148 Javelin is included in Red River as a heavy alternative Marine anti-tank weapon.
FIM-92A Stinger
The FIM-92A Stinger is used in various missions. It can only be fired when locked onto helicopters, which is then promptly discarded once it is fired.
Mk 19 grenade launcher
The Mk 19 grenade launcher can be seen used by Marines.
KAC M203A1 / M203A2 Grenade Launchers
The M203 grenade launcher, specifically the A1 and A2 versions, are attached to many M4A1 Carbines and M16A4 rifles. The Rifleman and Grenadier classes have access to it, Grenadiers start with the M203 on the M4A1, while the Rifleman near the end of their progression can unlock the M203 for M4A1/M16A4.
RPG-7
The RPG-7 is used by insurgents.
QW-2 "Vanguard 2"
PLA forces in-game uses QW-2 Vanguard 2 shoulder launched surface-to-air missile as a counterpart to the Stinger. Unlike most rocket/missile launchers, the QW-2 does not have a lengthy deploy animation and it is discarded once it is fired.
PF-98
The PF-98 appears as a counterpart to the USMC SMAW.
QLG-91B
The QLG-91B is the standard grenade launcher of the PLA mounted on their QBZ-95 rifles.
Grenades & Explosives
M14 Anti-Personnel
M18 Smoke Grenade
The M18 Smoke Grenade.
M18A1 Claymore
The M18A1 Claymore is also used by USMC forces.
M21 Anti-Tank mine
The M21 Anti-Tank mine.
M67 Hand Grenade
The M67 Hand Grenade appears as the only grenade this time around and can only be used by the player and their AI Squadmates (If they were equipped with frag grenades in the loadout menu) as it seems both the PLA and Insurgents don't have grenades.
Other
M242 Bushmaster chaingun
The M242 Bushmaster chaingun is seen mounted on USMC LAVs throughout the game.
