Those who carry the handgun include Steve McGarrett (Jack Lord), Danny "Danno" Williams (James MacArthur), Chin Ho Kelly (Kam Fong) and Kono Kalakaua (Zulu). McGarrett's Model 36 is carried in a single shoulder rig. Other versions of the S&W are used by several criminals and suspects in the series.

The Smith & Wesson Model 10, also known as the Military & Police (M&P) and the "Police Special", is seen in the hands of law enforcements as well as many criminals in the series.

Different variants of the M1 Carbine are seen used in the series. In "Savage Sunday" (S2E05), Elpidio Acuna (Henry Silva) and other revolutionaries are armed with the M1 Carbine when raiding a military armory. In "Sweet Terror" (S2E07), McGarrett (Jack Lord) takes an M1 Carbine off a gunman.
