The first season follows FBI Investigator Dr. Will Graham (Hugh Dancy), and Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen), as the FBI investigate the missing of several girls in Minnesota. The season premiered in the US on NBC in April 2013.

Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) carries a SIG-Sauer P226 as his sidearm in the series after he gets his field approval back in "Apéritif" (S01E01). BAU Special Agent-in-Charge Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) also carries a SIG-Sauer P226 as his sidearm in the series, altough he is more often seen wielding his shotgun. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) also handles Grahams' P226 in "Rôti" (S01E011) as he takes the pistol away from a feverish Graham for his own good.
