Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)

Close Encounters of the Third Kind is a 1977 science fiction drama written and directed by Steven Spielberg. The film stars Richard Dreyfuss as an ordinary father who finds himself mysteriously drawn to an unusual meeting point in the Western United States.



The following weapons were used in the film Close Encounters of the Third Kind:


Valmet M71S

A Valmet M71S with a wooden handguard and a 30 round magazine is seen in the hands of a Mongolian man in the Gobi Desert in a scene originally deleted from the film, but later re-added to the film's special edition re-release.

M16 variants

Several unknown M16 variants which includes (assumed) night vision scopes are used by the US Military.

M16 aka SP1 (flat "slab side receiver") with an A1 "birdcage" Flash hider, used to resemble the M16A1 in many Vietnam era movies. This version has a 20 round magazine - 5.56x45mm

M16A1

Several M16A1 rifles are seen used by the US Army throughout the film.

Unidentified Revolver

Robert (Lance Henriksen) is seen with a revolver holstered under his jacket during the movie's ending sequences.

Browning M2 Aircraft

The Grumman TBF Avengers of Flight 19 (at least one aircraft) is seen with what is assumed to be a Browning M2 .50 BMG in it's dorsal turret.
