Charles Edward Durning (February 28, 1923 – December 24, 2012) was an American actor who appeared in over 200 movies, television shows and plays. He was a longtime friend and frequent collaborator with Burt Reynolds. He was nominated twice for an Academy Award and received nine Emmy Award nominations. Charles Durning served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He saw action in Western Europe. Among his awards are the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart (2 x Oak Leaf Clusters) and the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB). Mr. Durning received the French National Order of the Legion of Honor from the French Government in 2008. He passed away at the age of Eighty-Nine in 2012 and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
