The Unbeliever is a 1918 silent propaganda film directed by Alan Crosland. The story is about the young naive Philip Landicutt who joins the U.S. Marine Corps to fight the Germans in France. Believing in quick glory, he and his comrades experience the everyday life of war. During an encounter with the Belgian girl, Virginie Harbrok, Philip fell in love with her.

Springfield M1903
Philip Landicutt, "Lefty" (Darwin Karr), Albert Mullins (Moss Gill), and other American soldiers are armed with M1903 Springfield rifles. German soldiers including Emanuel Müller (Earl Schenck) can also be seen wielding Springfield rifles. Instead of their own Mauser rifles two Belgian Army scouts are also armed with Springfields. Virginie Harbrok (Marguerite Courtot) holds Philip's rifle at the movie's climax.
