The Punisher is a 1989 action film that was the first feature film adaptation of the Marvel comic book character. The B-movie was directed by Mark Goldblatt (a notable film editor who cut such films as Lethal Weapon and Terminator 2) and starred Dolph Lundgren as the vigilante Frank Castle. Despite the American setting, the production was entirely filmed in Sydney, Australia. The Punisher character would subsequently be re-adapted three more times: as feature films in 2004's The Punisher starring Thomas Jane, 2008's Punisher: War Zone starring Ray Stevenson, and then in 2016 in the Daredevil Netflix series, which featured Jon Bernthal as the character, who is now part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and in 2017 stars in his own standalone Netflix series.
