The first Izhmekh semi-auto shotgun was the IZh-20, a clone of Remington 1100, which appeared around 1964, simultaneously with IZh-21. A small number of shotguns were built and tested, but but it didn’t come to serial production.

In 1998 was developed the Baikal MP-151, constructed on the base of Baikal IZH-81, and produced in small numbers in 1999. It featured the adjustable gas system. However, the manual gas adjustment was unnecessary, and it was replaced by Baikal MP-153 in 2000.

Was also created the MP-154 variant, it is a dual-mode shotgun, adjustable for semi-automatic or pump-action operation as the Franchi SPAS-12.

MP-153 was replaced by Baikal MP-155 since 2012. In 2017 was presented the Baikal MP-156, which is similar to the MP-155, but uses the inertia system.
