About
High Standard Firearms, frequently referred to as "Hi-Standard", is an American manufacturer of firearms, based in Houston, Texas. The company was founded in Hamden, Connecticut in 1926 as the Hartford Arms and Equipment Company, a supplier to the numerous firearms companies in the Connecticut Valley. In 1932, the company, headed by a Swedish immigrant named Carl Gustav Swebilius, was purchased, rebranded High Standard, and began making .22 caliber pistols. High Standard acquired Arcadia Machine & Tool (AMT) in 2001, as well as Interarms. High Standard continues to produce the AMT Hardballer 1911, AMT Automag II in .22 WMR and the AMT Backup.
