Old Surehand (original German title Old Surehand 1.Teil, alternative English title Flaming Frontier) is a 1965 Eurowestern directed by Alfred Vohrer. It is the eighth movie in Winnetou film series, based on the novels by Karl May. In Old Surehand Winnetou (Pierre Brice) and his friend Old Surehand (Stewart Granger) oppose Jack O'Neal (Larry Pennell), also known as "General", the leader of the gang of robbers and supposed murderer of Surehand's brother. When trying to get to the rich gold mine, located in Comanche tribe land, General provokes conflict that would wipe out Comanches. Old Surehand and Winnetou appear to be the only ones who can stop the war.
The following weapons were used in the film Old Surehand:
Revolvers
Arminius HW-1S Revolver
Most handguns in the movie are 5-shot Arminius revolvers with 6" barrels. It appear to be the long barreled version of HW-1S signal revolver. Gold prospector Ben O'Brian (Vladimir Medar), his niece Judith (Letícia Román) and US Army Capt. Miller (Erik Schumann) carry Arminius revolvers. These revolvers are also used by numerous bandits.
Single Action Army Revolver
Single Action Army "Quick-Draw" revolvers (probably modern European replicas) are used by various characters, including General (Larry Pennell), his henchman Jim Potter (Velimir 'Bata' Zivojinovic), Toby (Terence Hill) and Wabble (Milan Srdoc). Due to continuity error, revolvers with wooden and ivory grips often switch in hands of same characters.
Shotguns
Double Barreled Shotgun
Double Barreled Shotguns with exposed hammers are used by farmer McHara (Veljko Maricic) and his son Bob (Miroslav Buhin) during the shootout on the farm.
Rifles and Muskets
Winchester Model 1894
The Winchester Model 1894 is Old Surehand's (Stewart Granger) weapon. In several scenes his rifle is used by Judith (Letícia Román) and Delia (Jelena Zigon). Winchester Model 1894 Saddle Ring Carbines are seen in hands of several characters, including General's henchmen Clinch (Dusan Janicijevic) and Cat (Nikola Gec).
"The Silver Gun"
The double barreled rifle, named "The Silver Gun", is Winnetou's (Pierre Brice) signature weapon.
Kipplaufbüchse Single Shot Rifle
General's henchmen, local citisens, US Army cavalrymen and Comanche warriors carry single shot top-break hunting rifles. Such rifles were (and still are) produced by various manufacturers in Europe and America, often referred by the German term Kipplaufbüchse.
Single Shot Rifle
Comanche warriors also carry single shot rifles. Rifles with both shortened hunting stocks and long military-style stocks are seen. While its outlook resembles Martini-Henry rifles, it is break action guns, as it can be seen in Winnetou and the Crossbreed.
Remington 1863 Zouave
In the course of action General sells two hundred guns to Comanches. Many of them are Percussion Cap Muskets. Due to two barrel bands they appear to be Remington 1863 Zouave (probably modern replica).
