Bite The Bullet is a 1975 Western that focuses on contestants who take part in an endurance horse race covering 700 miles. The film is set in 1909, allowing for more modern firearms to make an appearance as well as motorcycles and automobiles. WARNING! THIS PAGE CONTAINS SPOILERS!
Handguns
Colt New Service
Sam Clayton (Gene Hackman) carries a Colt New Service.
2nd Model Smith & Wesson .44 Hand Ejector
Carbo (Jan-Michael Vincent) carries what appears to be a 2nd Model Smith & Wesson .44 Hand Ejector as his revolver of choice. Unlike the Colt New Service, this weapon choice is anachronistic. The S&W 44 Hand Ejector "Triple Lock" was introduced in 1907, but until 1915 it was manufactured with a protective housing for the ejector rod. It wasn't until 1915 that S&W eliminated the lug with the introduction of the 2nd Model. Since the story is set in 1909, the 1st Model Hand ejector would have been more appropriate.
Colt Single Action Army
Luke Matthew's (James Coburn) revolver of choice is what appears to be the "Quick Draw" Single Action Army.
Remington Model 1866 Derringer
Sir Harry Norfolk (Ian Bannen), one of the participants in the race, has a bad fall and his horse breaks it's leg. Luke Matthews (James Coburn) comes along and lends him his Remington 1866 Derringer so that he can put the horse out of its misery.
Rifles
Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine
The Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine is carried by both Luke Matthews (James Coburn) and Sam Clayton (Gene Hackman), who both use it most notably when taking on a band of horse thieves.
Shotguns
12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun
A 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun is used by a would-be rapist to get Miss Jones (Candice Bergen) to comply with his orders. It is then turned against him by Miss Jones (Candice Bergen).
