The first Izhmekh semi-auto shotgun was the IZh-20, a clone of the Remington 1100, which appeared around 1964, simultaneously with the IZh-21. The IZh-20 was a relatively obscure model; it is known that a small number of shotguns were built and tested, but it didn't make it to serial production.
In 1998, the Baikal MP-151 was developed, constructed on the base of the Baikal IZH-81, and produced in small numbers in 1999. It featured an adjustable gas system. However, the manual gas adjustment was unnecessary, and it was replaced by the Baikal MP-153 in 2000.
A MP-154 variant was also made. This model is a dual-mode shotgun, adjustable for semi-automatic or pump-action operation like the Franchi SPAS-12.
The MP-153 was replaced by the Baikal MP-155 in 2012. In 2017 the Baikal MP-156 was unveiled, which is similar to the MP-155, but uses an inertia system.
The Baikal MP-155K is a semi-automatic, detachable box magazine-fed shotgun, developed on the base of the MP-155 to compete with Turkish semi-automatic shotguns and Saiga shotguns for the US market, and presented in 2014.
