McQ is a 1974 American neo-noir crime drama directed by John Sturges (The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, The Eagle Has Landed, Ice Station Zebra, Joe Kidd), the first crime film starring John Wayne set in the contemporary era. After turning down Dirty Harry, Wayne witnessed the movie go onto enjoy unexpected box office success. As a result, Wayne would star in two modern police dramas back to back. McQ was first followed by Brannigan in 1975. In addition to Wayne, the film also stars Eddie Albert, Clu Gulager, Al Lettieri, Roger E. Mosley, and Colleen Dewhurst. McQ was filmed on location in Seattle in the summer of 1973.
The following weapons were used in the film McQ:
WARNING! THIS PAGE CONTAINS SPOILERS!
Submachine Guns
MAC-10
McQ (John Wayne) purchases a MAC-10 from the gun shop after his service revolver is confiscated. He uses it during the climactic chase on the beach. It is referred to as an "Ingram" and stated to be chambered in 9mm (although the actual screen-used weapon is in .45 ACP).
Handguns
Browning Hi-Power
McQ (John Wayne) buys a Browning Hi-Power from the same gun shop after having his last remaining revolver is confiscated by the Seattle Police Department.
Colt Python
During the climactic car chase on the beach, one of the gangsters chasing McQ (John Wayne) uses a Colt Python with a 6" inch barrel. It also appears that McQ (John Wayne) uses a 4" inch barrel Python at the beginning of the movie and later a Python "snubbie" with a 2.5" barrel. McQ's partner Stan Boyle (William Bryant) is shown carrying what appears to be a Python in a holster just before he is killed. In addition, Franklyn Toms (Clu Gulager) can be seen using a Python with a 4" inch barrel when he attempts to take out McQ on the beach.
Smith & Wesson Model 10
After being suspended from the police department, McQ (John Wayne) carries a snub nose Smith & Wesson Model 10.
Star Model B
At the beginning of the movie, McQ's (John Wayne) corrupt partner Stan Boyle (William Bryant) kills two other corrupt police officers (his partners in crime) with a suppressed Star Model B. The Spanish 9x19mm Star Model B was a frequent substitute for .45 ACP Government M1911s in the older days of cinema- mainly because there were problems (that have since been solved) with getting .45 ACP blanks to cycle in pistols.
Shotguns
Remington 870
During the climactic car chase on the beach, one of the gangsters chasing McQ (John Wayne) appears to use a Remington 870.
Winchester Model 1897 "Trench Gun"
A large amount of confiscated narcotics is stolen from the Seattle police as it it is being shipped to an incinerator to be destroyed. McQ (John Wayne) attempts to stop the thieves and one of them opens fire on McQ with a Winchester Model 1897 "Trench Gun".
Double Barreled "Coach" Shotgun
At the end of the film, the drug dealer Santiago (Al Lettieri) attempts to kill McQ (John Wayne) with a short barreled "Coach" shotgun. Unsurprisingly, he fails and McQ takes him down with his MAC-10.
