Sidearms

Why are there no sidearms listed. No proper soldier would go into battle with unsufficient gear-S&Wshooter 03:54, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

I haven't seen any handguns in the game as yet. If I encounter any, I will add them. I know the original America's Army features the Beretta M9 and Makarov PM as sidearms for the U.S. and OPFOR respectively, but haven't seen any pistols in this game yet. Orca1 9904 22:39, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
No side arms? What the hell do they want you to do if you run outta ammo?-Oliveira 22:44, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
Use the bayonet to liberate a rifle from an enemy soldier. They won't be needing it after you stab 'em with the bayonet-S&Wshooter 00:00, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
But with that i will need to be all stealthy and shit. This isn't a stealth game.
It's actually hitting them with the butt of the rifle, not a bayonet attack as none of the weapons have bayonets mounted or available, and I've actually seen it used in the game (hell, even had a guy do it to me once when he caught me out of ammo in close quarters; *SMACK!* "Enepria dolo!"'). Orca1 9904 22:23, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
You could just wait for one of your buddies to drop a guy so you can take his gun. Or you could just take some ammo off of a dead OPFOR as the Obran seems to use a STANAG-S&Wshooter 21:25, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
The Obran rifles start out using Magpul P-Mags, but can be reloaded with STANAGs. Not sure about the LMK light machine gun version though, since it's magazine-fed and not belt-fed. Will have to try sometime... Orca1 9904 22:23, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
No go on reloading the LMK; apparently it won't swap the Beta-C drums for a STANAG mag. Orca1 9904 23:56, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
You do all know that in RL the vast majority of soldiers do not get issued sidearms--AdAstra2009 21:26, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Yeah but you can get your own if it's authorized. My cousin's buddy was a marine and carried a .44 Desert Eagle while he was in the middle east. If it were me, I would try to get a Hi-Power, a Desert Warrior or a CZ75 authorized-S&Wshooter 21:28, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
I'd use either a Glock or maybe a double-stack 1911 like a Para-Ordnance. Orca1 9904 22:23, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
It's supposed to be really hard to get .45 ACP, but I could totally see how a Para would be a wonderful choice . A Glock would also be a good choice, but I do not personally like them. They are way too light for me. If they would let me, I would try to bring my 686+P-S&Wshooter 22:38, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Yeah I'm calling Bullshit on on that, It is illegal to bring personally owned firearms onto the battlefield. --AdAstra2009 00:19, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
Not if it is authorized by the commanding officer. One of my cousins is a corpman, and he has gotten the OK to get a Desert Warrior (he just needs to get one). Before that he was issued a Colt M1911A1-S&Wshooter 00:55, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
I saw my cousin yesterday and he told me that not only has he gotten hi Desert Warrior, but one of the sidearms he sees most often are Kimber pistols-S&Wshooter 20:57, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Kimber 1911s are authorized by the Marines specifically the Desert Warrior, Desert Eagles are not, I will NOT believe it till you show me evidence that is 100% correct.--FIVETWOSEVEN 00:48, 12 September 2010 (UTC) http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=535028 More proof backing up what I said, look at the general nature of it. Back in the 60s the military didn't care about what you carried for a sidearm but nowadays its heavily regulated. No military is going to authorize a Desert Eagle for service.--FIVETWOSEVEN 01:08, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

Invisible Slings?

Something interesting I've noticed about rifles & machine guns in this game is that none of them have slings, yet when the player lets go of one to use a grenade the weapon is seen dangling in front of the player's third-person model as if hanging from a three-point sling, and captured/recovered weapons not currently in use are seen slung on the player's back as well. Rather interesting for a game that boasts its' realism and attention to detail. Orca1 9904 23:52, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Every war game has invisible slings. Pay attention in COD4 and COD:WAW when the NPCs pull out their sidearms and grenades. The guns dangle just like this game.--Oliveira 00:04, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
It's because of memory issues, jigglebones are a pain in the ass for low memory computers --yocapo32 22:57, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Have you read the comic series based on AA? Invisible slings are the least of concern when you have hand-held miniguns, undersea bases, and no eight hour Humvee rides where nothing at all happens. My favorite moment was when the CIA plucked a group of guys from the regular Army (instead of going to JSOC like they actually would), just gave them some SCARs, and told them basically "You're special ops now!" without a lick of extra training. Oh, did I mention inverted rappelling from the ceiling and taking out hostiles with suppressed SIGs? Yeah, that's totally what happens when you join the Army. Inverted rappelling with suppressed pistols. Spartan198 (talk) 07:19, 19 May 2020 (EDT)

"GS-36"

If it's identical to the M320 in every way except name, shouldn't it be in the same section? Spartan198 (talk) 00:49, 29 March 2021 (EDT)

Well, since no one's said anything either way, I've gone ahead and merged the GS-36 section with the M320. Spartan198 (talk) 05:24, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
