I thought this was a Pak 38, but now that I see how similar it looks to the Pak 40, I'm not so sure anymore. Any thoughts? --Funkychinaman (talk) 12:47, 18 September 2013 (EDT)
- I think it is a Pak 40. I think if it was a 38 you would see a vertical projection of the lower shield by the far wheel. also, the bracket that holds the barrel to the recoil track has 3 bolts on a 38, and only 2 on a 40 and it looks like that only has the 2. Not 100% though as it is a very tight shot and a lot of the ways to tell them apart aren't visible. --commando552 (talk) 13:16, 18 September 2013 (EDT)
- Actually, I'm now swinging back to a 38 as it generally looks a bit small compared to the guy on the right, I think the outside parts of the shield may be curved rather than straight, and it is also missing the little piece of shield that is mounted under the gun itself which is on a 40. Are there any shots of it that show a bit more of the outside of the shield to show if it has the extra little wings that are on a 38 one? --commando552 (talk) 13:25, 18 September 2013 (EDT)
- I just realised that there is a step down in the Pak 40 barrel a couple of feet ahead of the shield which is absent on this, confirming it is probably a 38. --commando552 (talk) 13:31, 18 September 2013 (EDT)

- Definitely a Pak 38. When they first get to the gun you can see how short a section of the recoil track (not the correct name but can't remember what it is called right now) there is behind the breech. On the Pak 40 this is much longer. Then as the camera pans across you can see the extra little wings on the side of the Pak 38 shield, and then when the camera moves forward you can just see the top of the outside upward projections of the lower shield (which were hidden behind the folded lower half in the original screenshot due to the low angle). As for why there are only 2 bolts on the front barrel support, it looks like the front bolt is missing. --commando552 (talk) 13:48, 18 September 2013 (EDT)
