Are these navigation boxes necessary?

Is there a purpose for these nav boxes? If so, what is it? How do they assist in the identification of firearms in media? They seem to be a step forward towards making IMFDB an online gun encyclopedia. Also, they present incomplete information. For example, the nav box on the 1911 page is for Colt's Manufacturing Company, while in reality the WWI M1911 and WWII M1911A1 were manufactured by Colt, Ithaca, Remington Rand, Springfield Armory, and others in small quantities (Singer, Union Switch & Signal, Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Co.). The Thompson Submachine Gun page is about the same - only the Colt nav box is included, while the Thompson was actually produced by several other companies. Also consider the Lee-Enfield rifles. The Lee-Enfield page includes only the Royal Small Arms factory nav box, when in fact the various Lee-Enfield bolt action rifles were manufactured by Birmingham Small Arms Company, Lithgow Small Arms Factory, London Small Arms Co. LTD, and others. The same basic situation exists for other military weapons. In order to provide accurate information, many gun pages would need up to perhaps 5 or 6 nav boxes. Is that the ultimate goal? LJ (talk) 19:56, 11 July 2024 (UTC)

Well, We have already boxes for like 6 manufactures and 1911, ARs and AKs. All this boxes are incomplete to this day, for example, Remington box was updeted by my today, but the stuff to add was there for a few years. And AR box? It is incomplete, becouse even ARs with thier own pages haven't been add to this day. And also not only big companies have thier own nav boxes, like Sauer and Sons with thier 5 guns. So basiclly, I finish what somebody started. I think this nav boxes are cool and simple guide. And also nav boxes are only for companies with thier own pages, so there will be no for Lightow, London Small Arms, Singer, Union Switch & Signal etc. becouse this firms don't have their page. And they will not have it, becouse we have standards for manufacturers. They have to make at least 3 firearms. Most of smaller ones make 1 or 2 models, like only Stens, Lee-Enfields or Grease Guns. Concluding, if nav box is for company with thier onw page, then it will pass for me. Ad in case of 1911, ARs, Thompsons and AKs: well they are so popular so they have many images, boxes and even whole pages. Thats how it is. Not all guns would have 2 or boxes. We have like 500 or more guns pages and only like 50 are super known and made in milions guns. --Buckyb234 (talk) 21:59, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
