Arsenal AD
About
Arsenal AD (Bulgarian: Арсенал АД) is a Bulgarian enterprise from the military industry with headquarters and main production facilities in Kazanlak. In 1878 the Ruse Arsenal, the first armory in the country, opened. Then the arsenal was relocated to Sofia in 1891 and later to Kazanlak in 1924. The company initially only produced military-related components such as artillery and ammunition, but later branched out to producing heavy machinery and gas masks. The company was named Mashinostroitelen Kombinat Fridrikh Engels (Machine-Building Plant Friedrich Engels) until 1989 in an attempt to disguise its operations as a military enterprise; after 1989, it was renamed to Arsenal and privatized. The company remains as such today, mainly specializing in the production of firearms, ammunition and related components.
