The following guns were used in the film Windtalkers:

Windtalkers (2002)

M1 Garand

M1 Garand rifles are the most common weapons in the hands of U.S. Marines. Most notably seen used by Private Pappas (Mark Ruffalo) and Private Nellie (Martin Henderson).

M1928A1 Thompson

For the remainder of the film, Sgt. Joe Enders (Nicolas Cage) uses an M1928A1 Thompson fitted with a 30 round magazine (although the capacity is continually ignored, being a John Woo film). Sgt. Pete "Ox" Anderson (Christian Slater) also uses an M1928A1. Since this is a Woo film, whenever Enders or Ox comes running in, all it takes is a good hip fired burst from their Thompsons and all the Japs are dead.

M1911A1

Both Sgt. Joe Enders (Nicolas Cage) and Sgt. Pete "Ox" Anderson (Christian Slater) use M1911A1 pistols as their sidearms.

Colt M1911A1 - .45 ACP.
Enders primes a satchel charge while holding his M1911A1. If he had any plan to use it, he'd cock the hammer and put it in his right hand.
Enders packs his M1911A1 in Yahzee's pack when he disguises himself as a Japanese soldier to steal a radio.
Ox fires his M1911A1 after being stabbed by a bayonet. Slater flinches terribley in this scene.
"I can't let them take us." Ox prepares to kill Whitehorse when the Japanese over whelm them.
Instead of killing Whitehorse, he whips him around and fires his M1911A1 some more.
Whitehorse picks up Ox's M1911A1 when a Gunto-wielding Japanese officer decapitates him and fires it, eyes closed.
A close up Ox's M1911A1 when Yahzee picks it up and threatens to kill Enders. Note the milling on the ejection port, one of the procedures done to convert a real gun to fire blanks.
Enders reloads his M1911A1 during the final battle.
Yahzee forces Enders to turn his M1911A1 on him.

M1 Carbine

Both Private Ben Yahzee (Adam Beach) and Private Charlie Whitehorse (Roger Willie) use M1 Carbines throughout the film. This is strange because usually M1 Carbines were issued to soldiers of higher rank, not first time translator privates. It would be more likely for them to be issued M1 Garands.

Actually the M1 carbine was devised for troops who did rear enchelon duties, it was meant to replace the Colt 1911 pistol as a type of "sidearm" meaning in the sense a firearm to be used for personal protection. But not for deliberate attacks. So it would make sense on why a translater who's main duty isn't fighting, to be given an m1 carbine for self defense when a pistol just won't cut it.

Browning Automatic Rifle M1918A2

Private Chick (Noah Emmerich) uses a Browning Automatic Rifle M1918A2 as his role of the support gunner in the film, although his BAR is firing on the faster auto fire rate and has the bipod removed, suggesting it is used more in the assault rifle role.

A nice side shot of the BAR.

M2-2 Flamethrower

Private Harrigan (Brian Van Holt) uses an M2-2 Flamethrower as his weapon in the film. Using a flamethrower in any combat situation is a brave move as a single hit from an FMJ round to the tank containing a mixture of Napalm and Gasoline, and the tank will explode and engulf the user in flames. "That is more a hollywood effect, the tank would not blow from a single round a 45 probably wouldn't even penetrate,as for a rifle it would zip through, if it hit the compression and gasoline/napalm mix at the same time maybe. Other than that i think not. It would most likely not blow up. Like magical exploding gas tanks on cars.- Tyler Durden" Harrigan is unlucky enough to experience this himself, forcing Sgt. Joe Enders (Nicolas Cage) puts him out of his misery with his .45.

Another shot of Harrigan torching the tank.
Here we see the flamethrower is a rubber prop, since even empty the tank weighs roughly 30lbs.
Harrigan's tank ignites when struck by a round. It is rare that lead rounds would spark and ignite the fluid but since most issued rifles (including the Japanese Arisaka) used Full Metal Jacket FMJ "Ball" ammo, the metal on metal contact sparks and the tank blows up."Whoever wrote this you are an idiot. Lead nor Copper which FMJ bullets in that time period were, do not spark. You might get a spark from a steel core bullet(not around in WWII obviously) but I doubt it.However its a movie so you just gotta role with john woo, and non realistic but "cool looking" shootout seens. You want to see realistic, check out The Way Of The Gun by Christopher McQuarrie with Bencio del Toro, Ryan Phillipe, James Caan among many other good actors. Thats about as realistic as it gets. Especially the last scene of the movie. WOW." - Tyler Durden
Harrigan, SOL.

Winchester 1897

Gunnery Sergeant Hjelmstad (Peter Stormare) uses a Winchester 1897 "Trench" gun as his weapon in the film, although he is never seen firing it.

EDIT: In the "Director's Cut", Hjelmstad uses it during the surprise Japanese attack on the village where Harrigan, Ox, and Whitehorse are killed.

Springfield M1903

Some of the Marines during the opening scene in Guadalcanal use Springfield M1903A3 rifles. While the M1903A4 was usually issued as a sniper rifle, sometimes '03 rifles were used due to M1 Garand shortages.

M1 Bazooka

An M1 Bazooka is used by Marines during the battle of Saipan. When two Marines are attempting to take out a bunker with the device, the loader is wounded and the gunner is killed, so Sgt. Pete "Ox" Anderson (Christian Slater) runs out and does a stylish "judo-roll", grabbing the launcher in the process. The wounded loader gets back up and readies the weapon, and Ox takes out the bunker single handedly. Some other Marines are also seen carrying them.

Browning M1919A4

Browning M1919A4 machine guns are seen both pintle mounted on US jeeps and mounted on M2 tripods in the hands of the infantry.

A Marine lugs an M1919A4 while another carries the M2 tripod. Based on the way he carries the gun, it is assumed to be a resin prop since a real M1919 is far too heavy to carry by the barrel with the bulk of the gun hanging off the shoulder.
A Marine is seen maning an M1919A4 behind Gny. Sgt. Hjelmstad. "Hope theres not an accidental discharge, look at where it's aimed Laughing my a** off ( can i sware?)."- Tyler Durden (Peter Stormare).

Browning M2HB

Browning M2HB machine guns are seen mounted on US M4 Sherman tanks.

Mk II hand grenade

Mk II hand grenades are used by the Marines.

One of Ender's Marines during the opening scene throws a Mk II grenade.
Pvt. Pappas (Mark Ruffalo) pulls the pin on a Mk II grenade.
Sgt. Enders pops the primer handle off a Mk II grenade before throwing it in to kill Whitehorse (Roger Willie). "Cooking" a grenade is film fiction and anyone brave enough to attempt it is likely to die or be declared crazy. The only reason this is done in the film is because the fuse realistically smokes and looks cool in close ups. "I would cook a grenade and Im sure soldiers did. Know your grenades. The average fuse on a grenade like that says 5 seconds but it is more like 4.2 seconds counting 1 mississippi and so on. Cooking it would allow a soldier to let time run down and get it right next to the target ( probably relativley close) and get behind cover. Say the guy spots you fresh grenade and threw it back, oh no. HA HA HA. I would definitley cook one if need be." - Tyler Durden

Unknown Smoke Grenade

Marines throw unknown smoke grenades to cover the approach of Sgt. Joe Enders (Nicolas Cage) when he charges a machine gun emplacement to throw a satchel charge inside.

Pvt. Nellie (Martin Henderson) throws a smoke grenade.

Arisaka Type 38

Arisaka Type 38 rifles are used by the Japanese Imperial Army troops. At one point in the film, Pvt. Ben Yahzee (Adam Beach) disguises himself as a Japanese soldier to aquire a radio after his is destroyed. He also takes a Arisaka Type 38 along with the disguise. Some of the rifles are seen with wooden barrel covers while others have them removed.

Arisaka Sniper Rifle

While not closely seen, a Japanese sniper takes out a few Marines with an Arisaka Rifle, assumed to be a scoped model to fit the sniper role. But do to John Woo logic, he is no match for Sgt. Joe Enders (Nicolas Cage) and a quick hip fired burst from his Thompson.

Nambu Type 99 Light Machine Gun

Japanese soldiers are seen mowing down Marines with Nambu Type 99 Light Machine Guns. When trying to steal a Japanese radio, Sgt. Joe Enders (Nicolas Cage) uses two Type 99 LMGs to cover Yahzee as he calls in.
