Showtime (2002)

Showtime is a 2002 action comedy directed by Tom Dey (Shanghai Noon) and starring Robert De Niro as Mitch Preston, a no-nonsense LAPD detective who is partnered with Trey Sellars (Eddie Murphy), a patrol officer who has dreams of becoming an actor. Together they become stars of their own reality program as they investigate the use of a very deadly weapon in several crimes. The cast includes Rene Russo and William Shatner as himself.

Shotguns

Modified Saiga-12 Shotgun

The unique weapon used by Ceasar Vargas (Pedro Damian) in the film is a modified Saiga-12 shotgun. It's mentioned by the gun expert Charlie Hertz in the film as "the gun that's not supposed to exist". Designed specifically for this movie and built by gunsmiths Larry Zanoff and the late Jim Boland, the weapon is mentioned to fire depleted uranium shells. It is seen fired in both its compact configuration and in its full extended configuration. The weapon is also fitted with a green laser sight and C-more red dot sight. This weapon was later prominently featured in the series Firefly, as Jayne's favorite gun "Vera".

Lazy Boy (Mos Def) uses the Saiga in the compact form. (Notice how the flip-up barrel is completely flat with no exit. This is not the same gun fired at the truck later in the film (seen above screenshot), which was seen with an open fold down barrel when it was removed from the bag.)

Beretta 9000S

LAPD Detective Mitch Preston (Robert De Niro) is seen carrying a Beretta 9000S at the beginning of the film. He hides it in a large slush cup when he goes undercover to a drug buy.

Smith & Wesson 4505

Throughout the rest of the film, Mitch carries a Smith & Wesson 4505 as his sidearm. The pistol also is carried by several uniformed LAPD officers.

The Beretta 92FS is the main sidearm of LAPD officer Trey Sellars (Eddie Murphy) at the beginning of the film.

A thug is seen with a SIG-Sauer P229 with a stainless slide during the undercover sting. The pistol is later seen in the hands of Mitch's undercover partner Ray (Nestor Serrano).

In the final confrontation in the hotel room, Trey pulls his backup weapon, a NAA Guardian, which Mitch then hides in a video camera.

The Gun Show

At one point in the film, Trey and Mitch are seen entering a gun show where many weapons are displayed.

The M51 Quad Mounted system, consisting of quad Browning M2HBs, is seen along with Revolutionary War flintlocks and a WWII M1 Garand rifle.
