Model 17 Stielhandgranate "Potato Masher" high-explosive fragmentation hand grenade

The Model 17 Stielhandgrante was the last stick grenade developed and used by German forces and the armies of Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire during World War One. The difference to the Model 16 was that the M17 had a slender warhead without lid. After the war this grenade was used by the Reichswehr until it was replaced in 1924 by the Model 24. Several countries copied this type like Bulgaria and Finland (Varsikranaatti M32).
