  • MAS-49 (selection): - selected MAS 49 rifles with the smallest dispersion were devoid of grenade-throwing attachments and equipped as standard with an APX L Mle53 optical sight with a magnification of 3.85x. Rifles completed in this way were used as sniper rifles. This version was replaced by the FR F1 rifles.
  • MAS-49/56: - a shortened version initially developed for the airborne troops, over time it replaced the MAS-49 version. It had a shortened barrel and a new sight used when firing rifle grenades. The MAS-49/56 rifle had the option of mounting a knife bayonet on the barrel.
