The Russian Army adopted The Model 1917 chemical hand grenade in 1917. It was designed by Vladimir Rdultovsky who also designed [[RG-14 hand grenade]]. M1917 grenades were filled mostly with Chloropicrin. They were used in WW1 and in the Russian Civil war. This grenade was in service until sometime after 1945 however deactivated versions were used for training up until the 1980s.

M1917 grenades were filled mostly with Chloropicrin. They were used in WW1 and in the Russian Civil war. The last manual for this grenade appeared in 1927.
