JAG was a military legal drama series that focused on military lawyers in the Judge Advocate General Corps investigating and prosecuting cases involving personnel of the US Navy and Marine Corps. The series starred David James Elliott as Commander Harmon Rabb, Jr., who after being diagnosed with night blindness, gave up his career as a naval aviator and became a lawyer in the JAG Corps. The executive producer of the show was Donald Bellisario, who created such popular action shows of the 1980s as Magnum, P.I. and Airwolf. JAG premiered in 1995 on NBC, but was not renewed by the network after its first season. However, CBS subsequently picked up the series, where it continued to air for 9 more seasons from 1996 to 2005. In 2003, NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service premiered as a spinoff from JAG. The majority of the characters for the spinoff were introduced in a two-part episode of Season 8. Several JAG characters would reappear in the various spinoffs, including Elliott and Bell, who would reprise their roles in Season 10 of NCIS: Los Angeles.
