M1 Garand

One of the first guns seen in the film is the M1 Garand, seen carried by National Guard soldiers protecting black students during the integration of the University of Alabama.

During the scenes when Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) is training at Boot Camp, he and the other recruits are seen assembling M14 Rifles, Forrest finishing his in record time.

M16

During Forrest's time in Vietnam, he, like many of the other soldiers in his platoon are armed with M16 rifles.

The original M16, the first version, firing in a 20-round magazine, adopted in large numbers by the U.S. Army in Vietnam. It would later be replaced by the upgraded M16A1 - 5.56mm

Colt M1911

In one Vietnam scene, Forrest is handed an M1911 before going into the Viet Cong tunnel, and later his commanding officer, Lt. Dan Taylor (Gary Sinise) is seen using one after he is wounded during the battle scene.

Another one of Lt. Dan's ancestors, who died during World War II, is seen holding an M1928 Thompson that looks like an M1 Thompson.

Remington 870

A Black Panther is seen holding a sawed-off Remington 870 after Forrest beats up the guy who smacked Jenny at the "Black Panther Party"
