Sharps Rifle
When Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) is asked to join the U.S. Army, a statue behind him is of a Civil War soldier armed with a Sharps Rifle of unknown year.

- This film had also some of the best looking Nam sequences in a movie. Their Technical advisors were good. Not just battle scenes but equipment/guns and the look of the soldiers was all accurate.MPM2008
- On the DVD commentary the director said Capt. Dale Dye (Ret.) was the technical advisor for the film. He was also the advisor on Platoon. --Predator20 05:41, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

Lt. Dan's ancestors
Hey, one of Lt. Dan's ancestors can be seen dying in another war (the script says the revolutionary war). Does anyone know what gun he has in that scene? Thanks!

Nah, I get your point, and I agree somewhat that maybe it shouldn't be posted - Mainly more because you really can't even see much of the gun in the first place. Though I don't see what harm there is in keeping it. StanTheMan 16:42, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Unknown rifle
This "African-American soldier" in question is Huey P. Newton, one of the Black Panther Party founders. The picture is a very famous one that has appeared widely in the media (I've seen T-shirts with it). Here's one link to it:

Vietnam Scene Trivia
